FOR THE RECORD…
A bummer of a month…If you bleed Cardinal and Gold like many of us this month has been depressing. Hard to be upbeat when our football team in not winning. Add to that all the issues on health that pop up as you age and it’s a struggle to keep a positive attitude so I’ve been in my cave just brooding for the last several weeks. Consequently, you have not been finding “The Trojan Run Down” in your mailbox lately. My bad.
2013 College Baseball Season…
The 64 dollar question lurking in all our minds come every year is, could this be the season that our baseball team emerges from the ashes to once again be a formidable team in college baseball. Our wait has been a long one but “from hope springs eternal” so each year I’m hopeful and work hard at being optimistic that this will be the year. As long as the team plays as hard as they can and our coaching staff gives their all, I’ll be in the stands supporting their efforts. Our successes in the past have set the bar high; we were Trojans then and Trojans now, so nothing less than being the best is what’s expected.
Trojan Baseball and who is looking good…
The Trojan players showing a good start this fall season prior to the Cardinal and Gold Series were: Junior infielder James Roberts, hitting .438. Transfer outfielder Greg Zebrack hitting .342. Freshman outfielder Vahn Bozoisn hitting .452. Looking good on the mound: Bob Wheatley, Matt Munson Wyatt Strahan and Sean Silva.
Every year fall practice ends with a traditional two game series known as Cardinal and Gold Series. This year the games were played Nov. 16 and Nov. 18.
Game one the Gold won by a score of 5-1. Dante Flores had a home run.

TBAA Fall Banquet …
It was a huge success and if you missed it you missed an opportunity that probably will not come around again. The Era of the 50’s was the theme and players of the past had the chance to see teammates, many not seen since their playing days. Memories were shared, stories were told and the time flew by too quickly. More will be covered in the next Trojan Run Down.
Next year plans are to celebrate the Era of the 60’s.
MLB Hall of Fame…
In the weeks ahead you will be hearing a lot about MLB Hall of Fame. Among the names listed on the 37 player ballot for the first time are Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa. On January 9, 2013 ballots will be counted and we will know how voters feel about drug allegations that have tainted these high profile athletes of the Steroids Era. Candidates on the list need 75 percent of the Hall of Fame votes to be inducted.
There is no defined start or end time to “the steroids era,” though it is generally considered to have run from the late ’80s through the late 2000s. It is believed that the use of supplements was so widespread that as many as 50 percent or more ballplayers were using PED. One question now is how do you maintain the integrity of the Hall of Fame. If you induct these three athletes how do you justify not inducting Mark McGwire or even Pete Rose? Also, what happens when Alex Rodriguez is eligible for consideration? Do you leave him off, do you leave them all off or maybe you include them all along with an asterisk next to their names.
It’s not all that black or white, they are all great athletes but actions have consequences. What do you think, let me know your thoughts?
